St Laurence Catford

St Laurence Catford was built in 1968.

'Comforter' was made in 2008 for an organ screen
with an existing stained glass cross in its centre.
The vicar and congregation wanted a sculpture to unify the space.
The 3.5 metre diameter polished steel circle
echoes the communion rail, and reflects the changing light.
It also has adjustable lighting set behind it for evenings and winter.

Wreath 2017

The window commemorates the 11th Lewisham Battalion 1915-1919 and
incorporates the only remaining fragments of the original St Laurence church.
These are integrated into the stained glass window which is contemporary
with the church architecture. Originally there was a book of remembrance on the slate shelf.
My aim was to restore the shelf to its original function as a place of
remembrance, and draw attention to it with a garland/wreath commemorating
those who died in the First World War but also presenting a focus for those
currently grieving with a new book of remembrance.
